World Refugee Day candlelight vigil

Prominent Queenslanders joined the Multicultural Development Association and nearly 1 300 people in a candlelight vigil to mark World Refugee Day. Singer Katie Noonan, author Nick Earls, Queenslander of the Year Jim Bellos and the Queensland Roar mascot led the procession across the Goodwill Bridge to the City Botanic Gardens Cafe. The crowd stretched across the bridge for a minute's silence for people who had lost their lives in conflict. Each year the Multicultural Development Association helps more than 1 000 people start their new life in Brisbane.
