The destruction of the 12 canoes and outboard motors associated with the ill-fated citizenship bid by a group of Papua New Guineans in late 2010 brings to an end the saga of unlawful entry into Australian waters and unfounded claims for citizenship. Australian Government officials destroyed the canoes used by a group of Papua New Guinean members of the Papua Australia Plaintiff United Affiliates (PAPUA) group, who entered Australia illegally despite warnings not to do so.
